Ever considered getting into motorbike riding? Then you would be joining one of the biggest families in the UK. The UK is home to many riding championships as well as riding professionals, amateurs, and hobbyists. Whatever bracket you might fall into, you might have a few concerns about getting into riding. We understand that, and especially that one of the main concerns comes from using and/or changing gears. Gears can be a nightmare to work when you are in the flow of riding a bike. So, what can you do about that? You could take a look at our twist and go 125cc motorbikes instead!

What is ‘twist and go’ exactly?

Twist and go is the term that is most often used to explain a fully automatic motorbike. By fully automatic, we mean that it handles the gears for you. If you are like many other riders, the idea of fiddling around with gears as you try and drive at 30-60mph can seem silly. That’s why going for one of our automatic bikes makes a lot of sense.

Instead of having to mess around with a gear stick, you simply pull harder on the handlebars. This will see the bike pick up the pace naturally and start moving much faster. If you are looking for an easy way to build up speed on a bike, then, it makes plenty of sense for you to go down the route of using one of our twist and go motorbikes.

For most riders, using twist and go just feels a lot more natural. Driving a car, it does feel somewhat more simplistic to use a gearstick. On a bike, though? With the speed you are doing? It’s not something we would always recommend.

However, should you wish to get a manual 125cc motorbike, we do sell some models without automatic transmission. You can take a look at our bike collection and you can find some manual models in there instead. For most riders, though, we would heavily recommend that you stick to going down the route of using an automatic transmission. You will be surprised at just how easy it is to get a bike that feels easy to use and effective in the extreme.

If you ever think that changing gears might be the main reason why you don’t go for a motorbike, though, consider our twist and go alternatives.

How old do I need to be to ride twist and go 125cc motorbikes?

In terms of the age that you need to be, you need to be 17 to ride a motorbike of this size. However, you also need to get the right driving credentials. This means getting two license types:

  • You need to first go and pass your Compulsory Basic Training, which is essential.
  • You also need to go and get your provisional driving license or better from the DVLA.

Keep in mind that while you need to be 17 to ride our 125cc motorcycles, you can get both of the above at age 16. You could therefore sit these before your 17thbirthday and have everything ready and prepared. From there, you can then enjoy sitting on one of our twist and go motorbikes and riding it in full. Don’t try and ride a 125cc before age 17, though!

Getting your full bike license

However, from age 17, you could also go and sit what is known as your A1 license. We would recommend this to any rider who wants to make the most of their riding experience as soon as they can. Your A1 is going to involve passing two exams – a practical exam and a theoretical exam. Alongside your CBT, though, it would be proof enough that you can handle riding one of these bikes.

You could then get our twist and go 125cc motorbikes to reach their top speed of 60mph. With a CBT/provisional combo, you are limited to only 28/30mph. You could also go on the motorway if you were able to get a full driving license; you cannot do this normally.

If you would like to enjoy riding, then, it makes a lot of sense for you to invest in a twist and go motorbike. They are easy to buy from our store, and you should have no problem at all in picking out a motorbike that suits you personally. So, why not take a look at getting a motorbike of this particular style? With your A1, you can drive anywhere in the UK with it!
