Have you ever considered buying a motorbike? Many riders in the UK have.  At Direct Bikes, we regularly help people find their ideal first motorbike so that they can turn their riding dreams into a reality. All that you need to know when you want to buy a motorbike from Direct Bikes is what kind of speed you would be comfortable doing. For example, are you worried that you might be going too fast for riding in a residential zone?

Then you need to look at our motorbikes 50cc for sale. Take a look at our 50cc range of bikes, and your ideal alternative is just waiting for you!

What is a 50cc motorbike?

A 50cc motorbike is a small-sized motorbike; the smallest road legal bike that you could own. With a 50cc engine, it’s going to have the smallest engine that you can get and still ride on the road. Don’t’ assume that the engine is weak, though; it’s far from weak, actually. If you buy one of our 50cc motorbikes, you are getting a bike that can ride very easily and very comfortable at 30 miles per hour.

For most riders, that’s the kind of top speed that you can feel most comfortable riding at. It’s a fine choice, too, for anyone who is looking to drive around their local area. For a new rider, looking at our motorbikes 50cc for sale would be our ideal starting point, especially if you are lacking in experience.

Where are 50cc motorbikes suitable for?

While you could drive a 50cc anywhere in the UK outside of a motorway, really, they do have their limits. We recommend that you stick to riding in local areas if you can, such as towns and cities. Smaller roads as well as commercial and residential zones should be the ideal riding point for a motorbike.

The reason is simple: riding a motorbike is much easier if you stick to a place where it feels comfortable. While our 50cc motorbikes are powerful, they are only as powerful as their hardware allows. Trying to keep pace with cars doing 50, 60mph plus is going to be a waste of your time. Should you go down the route of getting one of our 50cc motorbikes for sale, then you should definitely take this into account as you think about where you could use that motorbike.

How old do I need to be to ride one of your 50cc motorbikes for sale?

To get on board a 50cc motorbike, you need to be at least the age of sixteen. You also need to hold your provisional driving license (or above) and also your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). With both of these credentials, you can show that you are the age that you need to be to go about and ride a 50cc motorbike.

With the age gap, though, you might also wish to consider applying for your provisional beforehand. Your provisional can take some time to turn up, so we recommend trying to get that arranged as soon as you can. Most people can apply for their provisional in the months leading up to their sixteenth birthday. We would recommend speaking with your local post office about this, though; they can tell you what the DVLA expects.

Can I drive a 50cc motorbike without a license?

No, you need to have at least your provisional and your CBT. These are essential learning items that will prove to the government that you are not a hazard on the roads. You also could consider going for your AM license, though. This would allow you to drive a 50cc motorbike at its full capacity. This means no more of the limits imposed on you by your CBT, which include:

  • You cannot go on the motorway (you cannot do this, even with an AM license).
  • You cannot drive at a speed of 30mph.
  • You cannot drive with a pillion passenger on the back of your motorbike.
  • You cannot remove your L plates.

If you go and get your full AM license, then you could put an end to all of these issues. Then, you could start driving one of our motorbikes in full!
