What is a Moped Top Speed?

What is a Moped Top Speed?

When you choose to buy a moped from Direct Bikes, you are choosing to buy either a 50cc or 125cc moped. These are our two primary forms of moped, and this will give you a good idea of what you are buying. CC, for your information, stands for Cubic Centimetres. This is the size of the engine in centimetres. This will give you a good idea of how large it is. Please note, though, that the CC does not identify directly with the top speed. For example, a 50cc moped cannot do a top speed of 50mph. What is a moped top speed, then?

50cc mopeds

A 50cc moped is usually going to be capable of doing a top speed of 30 miles per hour. At Direct Bikes, all of our rides can reach a top speed of 30mph. Given all of our mopeds are driven using an automatic transmission, this means that you can get to 30mph without having to change gears.

This is a good choice of top speed for new riders and/or riders sticking to local cities and towns. With a top speed of 30mph, you are unlikely to drive at a speed that is beyond the speed limit. You will also find that with most residential and city areas that a speed of 20mph is more than enough. This is why we recommend that if you are looking for a moped with a high top speed that you maybe look at our other range of mopeds.

30mph, though, is the ideal moped top speed for a new rider. This is also great for making sure you can cruise through your local town, city, or general area. So long as you avoid motorways, 30mph is just fine.

125cc mopeds

However, 125cc mopeds tend to be a bit more powerful. All of our 125cc mopeds, including our125cc Tommy, comes with a top speed of 60 miles per hour. At 60mph, you can easily tackle things like motorways and A roads. You just need to make sure that you have the right license to allow you to drive on things like the motorway. 60mph, though, is more than fast enough to handle driving on the motorway or an A road in the UK.

For that reason, anyone who thinks most of their commutes will take place via motorway should look at our 125cc range. While a 50cc moped is more suited to city riding, so owning both would be sensible, it’s personal choice. We recommend that you look through all of our mopeds and pick out the one that you think would help you get from A to B the easiest.

If you are looking for a ride that can get you from A to B faster, go for a 125cc moped. If you are looking for a more leisurely ride, then go for a 50cc moped. Consider your personal circumstances before you do anything, though. This will ensure you buy the right vehicle from our store here at Direct Bikes. Need a hand choosing? Then just let us know: we would be more than happy to assist you.
