Have you been thinking of making the jump from a scooter to a motorbike? Most people know them as two different bikes, but what's the difference? Our range of 125cc motorbikes for sale is a perfect way to make the transition to a more complicated vehicle. They allow you to gain great experience for moving on to more powerful motorbikes at a later date.

It can be worth getting a bit more information about 125cc motorbikes for sale before buying one, but we at Direct Bikes are always on hand. Below is some of the key information you need to know when choosing the right model for you. If you see a motorbike you like, take a look at our finance options. That said, we aim to keep our prices low to make our bikes more accessible.

What is a 125cc motorbike?

Unlike a scooter or moped, which is twist-and-go, 125cc motorbikes are just a less powerful version of a normal motorbike. It has the same engine power as a more powerful scooter, but works just like a normal bike. This means it has gears and a clutch, which can be a big jump for some riders.

That said, 125cc motorbikes are the perfect way to get experience with clutches and gears at a young age. This experience can then be used for more powerful bikes, or even for driving cars. If you've already got experience riding a moped then a 125cc bike is the next natural step for you to take.

If you want more specific information about any of our bike, just click on the links above. Each page has pictures and a 360-degree view function, allowing you to get a detailed look at every area of the bike. You can easily get as much information as you would in a physical dealership, just without having to leave your home!

Who can ride a 125cc motorbike?

Much like with mopeds, there is a minimum age restriction for riding 125cc motorbikes, which is 17 years old. Many riders start with a 50cc moped at 16, so being able to change to a full motorbike only a year later might seem a bit daunting. However, a year can give you plenty of experience being on the road, and the gears don't take long to master.

Although you might think you need a full licence to ride 125cc motorbikes, you'd be wrong. As with mopeds and scooters of all sizes, you only need a CBT to ride this size motorbike. You can obviously sit your full test but most people are happy to ride with just the standard training.

The CBT generally lasts a day and will teach you the basics of riding. You have to sit this even if you did a 50cc CBT, but this is because motorbikes are more complicated to control. More than anything, you have to be taught the best way to change gears and how this affects your riding. The only real advantage of getting your licence if you're 17 is that you can carry passengers.

Choosing the right motorbike for you

Perhaps you know that you want to buy a bike but you're unsure which would best for you. Luckily, here at Direct Bikes we have a great selection of bikes, so there's bound to be one that suits your tastes. Have a browse and use the 360-degree view to get a closer look at the details.

If you're thinking of something a bit sporty, then you could go for the Enduro S, which looks similar to a motocross bike. Or you could choose the Daytona or Sport RS if you want a more streamlined sporty look.

However, if you're after a more classic style then we've definitely got something for you too. There are choices like the Eagle or the Storm, both of which have retro vibes from the 50s and 60s. Then there's the Nevada, which looks like a classic American touring bike. The Nevada is what many people picture when they think of a motorbike, and you could be the proud owner of one!

Whichever bike you're thinking of choosing, their inner specs are very similar. Each has a 125cc engine and a top speed around 60mph. Similarly they all have manual gearboxes and hand-operated clutches. One other major benefit that they all share is that they're incredibly fuel efficient, making them a cost effective choice!
